Bionolle® - The pioneer in biodegradable
Bionolle® is an aliphatic polyester resin that has the versatility of common plastics and is stable under ordinary conditions. However, Binolle® becomes degradable in compost, wet soil, fresh water, seawater and activated sludge where microorganisms are present. It will decompose completely into water and carbon dioxide, and is therefore called “Eco-friendly material”.
Bionolle® was manufactured on a commercial basis for the first time by Showa Highpolymer Co., Ltd. in Japan. It has already earned the "OK Compost" label from AIB-Vincotte (AVI), the Belgian certification and screening body, as an indication of its capacity to decompose thoroughly in compost.

Bionolle® has a good processability for films, sheets, filaments, laminates, molded foam products and injection-molded products. Especially the properties of Bionolle® is said to be suitable for film processing, and it is actually used as “mulching film” and “compost bags” in Japan.
The scope of application fields is growing, and it is currently used not only in agriculture but also in fishery applications, civil engineering and construction, and for common household goods.
Application as Mulching film
Recently, Showa Highpolymer started another eco-friendly approach. It is the new grade of Bionolle®-Starch compound. According to our life cycle analysis, Bionolle® itself shows better eco-friendliness than conventional resins like LDPE. And Bionolle®-Starch compounds shows much better results.
